Gratitude and Trust is the name of a new book written by Tracey Jackson and Paul Williams, featured on a recent SuperSoulSunday interview with Oprah Winfrey. Paul has been in recovery for twenty-four years and together with writer Tracey, have gone back to research the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous, The Oxford Movement. From there they have designed six affirmations which form the central tenet of the book, close to the original twelve steps of the anonymous programs and updated for today’s audience.

I’m struck by the simple wisdom of their “six affirmations of personal freedom”:

  • Something needs to change, and it’s probably me
  • I don’t know how to do this but something inside me does
  • I will learn from my mistakes and not defend them
  • I will make right the wrongs I’ve done wherever possible
  • I will continue to examine my behaviour on a daily basis
  • I will live my life in love and service, gratitude and trust
