Autumnal treesPerhaps you are as overwhelmed as I am with the sheer array of fascinating resources available. Ever growing, every single second.

Less about rabbit holes and endless warrens, more about the infinite choice. Shall I listen to a podcast (it seems like everyone is doing a podcast), or read someone’s blog, check out LinkedIn, watch YouTube, pick up my Kindle and highlight yet more insights, turn the physical pages of a book….

So it brings me to the question, what can I usefully add to the noise?

What I want is to be heart-moved,
soul-touched, brought to tears,
feel goosebumps or shivers.

How about you?

What’s clear is this: all the podcasts in the world, blogs, LinkedIn posts, YouTubes may have value but they generally don’t invoke the above. Here’s what does, for me:

  • being intentional and selective about what learning resources I choose;
  • referring to the journal where I hand-write inspirational poems most days;
  • reminding myself of the lovely things people said about my first book at its launch (written in a guest book gifted by a friend);
  • attending my writing group;
  • pulling on my walking boots and kicking through the autumnal gold, russet and red leaves;
  • listening to birdsong or Malte Marten’s handpan music;
  • connecting with someone who inspires me, being in deep conversation;
  • arranging an exchange with a focusing partner….

I hope that gets you thinking. I’ll complete here with a provocative question (that gets me every time):

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?”
